Blog post 6 - An evaluation of your blogging experience

In general, I really liked the blogs, writing and reading them. I had always wanted to have one and this subject showed me that it is much easier than what I thought, you just have to propose it. In addition, it was a very good way to meet my classmates and teacher, since we cannot see each other in person due to the pandemic. I feel like my English writing skills improved a lot as I was able to practice writing and also had to learn new words and concepts. In the first blogs it was much more difficult for me to write than in the last ones. Also, the comments to the publications of my classmates helped me to practice giving my opinion in English, which in class I did not dare to do much. I would have liked to have had a blog with a free theme, to write about things that interested me more, or about personal experiences. I feel that sometimes it doesn't have to be all planned, because the work of thinking about something that you would like to convey and then writing it, I think

Blog post 5 - A subject you have enjoyed studying this year

My favorite subject this semester is “research design”. The teacher is Andrea Greibe, who teaches very well and I also like the class dynamics a lot. This subject is about learning to design and develop social research. Classes are generally divided into two blocks. The first is theoretical, where Andrea teaches us the contents. The second block is practical and we carry out the workshops. For this activity we are in assigned groups with which we develop the activities class by class. It is a space for dialogue between students and putting what they have learned into practice. To carry out the workshops we are divided into the zoom group sections (breakout romos) and at the end of the class we all meet again to conclude the session. In general we have seen the following content. We first study what social research is and why it is important in sociology. Then we study about the phases of the research process and also about the main elements of the research design. Finally we focus

Blog post 4 - A photograph you like

I took this photo in February this year, on a backpacking trip to southern Chile and Argentina. The photo shows a lagoon at the foot of a glacier called Vinciguerra, located in Ushuaia, Tierra del fuego. The lagoon had a beutiful esmerald color and we were able to walk around it until we reached the glacier. I really like this photo because it reminds me of a very important moment and experience for me. In the first place, it was the first trip that I have made alone to go this far, since Ushuaia is the second southernmost city in the world. Also, getting that place was very difficult, it was a great physical and mental challenge, but arriving and enjoying the place was incredible. Also, the dog that appears in the photo accompanied us all the way, throughout the day. That's why I love that “cream cheese”, which was the name we gave the dog because we were very hungry, appeared in the photo. This photo is a beautiful reminder, especially in a pandemic since we are locked up, of

Third blog - A person or expert in your field that you admire

One of the people I most admire in the field of social science is Julieta Kirkwood. She was a Chilean sociologist and political scientist who is considered one of the mothers of the feminist movement in Chile. She was born in 1937, in his youth he studied at the University of Chile and later she belonged to the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences. She finally passed away in 1985, at just 49 years old due to cancer. Kirkwood developed the theory of gender, doing a sociological study on the role of women, their rights and spaces. In short, the sociologist gave a theoretical framework to chilean feminism, through important works such as "Being politics in Chile" and "Feminaries". She was also the founder of the "Women's Study Centers" and then of "La morada" which sought to be a center for the provision of feminist thought and action. One of the things that I most admire about her is that she had a revolutionary spirit and created meet

Second Blog - My favourite piece of technology

I dont really remember when or how I got it. I only know that I have had it for several years ago. At first I didnt really like using it, actually I hardly ever used it because I was never very interested. That changed this year that I had to use it more than ever so I was forced to learn how to use it. I have it in a fixed place in my room, on my desk. I try not to move it a lot because it is a bit old so I try to take care of it as much as possible. I also have some accessories that allow me to take advantage of it a lot and use it every day for many different activities. That's what I like the most about this object, that when I'm using it, I don't need anything else, not even my cell phone. This is because I can do everything there, talk to people, surf the internet, watch classes and even entertain myself. Since the pandemic began, I can no longer imagine my life without it. I think it is a great tool that allows me to do many things that I like anywhere and at any tim

First Blog - Why you chose this career?

Why I chose this career? I never really knew what to study very well, in reality I have always liked many very different options, so I went through many stages where I said a different career. The year that defined everything for me was the last year of school. I had planned to study renewable natural resources engineering because I was interested in the environment. Then I participated in a social project with low-income migrant children and I realized how necessary it is to generate social change and impact in the communities. That's when the Sociology option appeared for me, but it was difficult because I was preparing the PSU of science and not the history one that was the one I needed. Finally, due to the social outbreak, fortunately I was still assigned a history score even though I did not take the test so I was able to apply for sociology at the University of Chile. My experience at the university has been very different from what I expected. I never imagined that I would
